Ferrylines to Sweden
Gothenburg is the largest city in West Sweden and the largest Swedish port. From Frederikshavn, Stena Line maintains a high frequency ferry service – up to 9 daily departures – with various types of modern ferries, among others: High-speed ferries (catamarans) – Stena Carisma Stena Line’s High Speed Sea Service (HSS) ferries have a unique design, and Stena Line has patented some of the constructional solutions. This type of ferry exists in two versions: the smaller type, HSS 900, is used in the Kattegat, and the larger type, HSS 1500, is used in the Irish Sea and the North Sea. HSS 1500 has capacity to carry vehicles, passengers and goods, whereas the smaller HSS 900 mainly carries passengers, vehicles and buses. The crossing time is minimized, and the ferries make up to 40 knots. Facilities on board include restaurants, shops, playrooms and relax areas. Multi purpose Ferries – Stena Jutlandica and Stena Danica This type of ferry carries passengers, goods and passenger cars. For the time being the multi purpose ferries sail day and night. Facilities on board include restaurants, bars, cinema, shops and playroom for children. On the late evening/night departures it is possible to book a cabin, and on some of the ferries there is a nightclub. Freight Ferries – Stena ScanRail These ferries solely for cargo are for cargo/freight not allowed on board the passenger ferries. The freight ferries usually have capacity for a number of lorries, and there are facilities for the drivers. Some parts of the ferry, however, are shared by the crew and the drivers. Cinema and restaurant are replaced by video and shared galley. Location in the Harbour The passenger ferries call at ferry berth 2 (Stena Carisma) and ferry berth 3 (Stena Danica and Stena Jutlandica). Both ferry berths are located in the southern part of the harbour. When arriving from motorway E45, follow the road signs for Sweden. Stena ScanRail calls at the railway ferry berth in the Traffic Harbour – when arriving from the south on the motorway E45, turn right at “Krudttårnet” (the Gunpowder Tower) (the old white tower on your right hand). From here, follow the road signs to the ferry.
