Pier 4 at Port of Frederikshavn has been extended and is now welcoming even gigantic ships and ferries like for example Color Line’s impressive SuperSpeed ferries.
During the past months, pier 4 at Port of Frederikshavn has been extended by 35 meters, from the existing 145 meters to 180 meters. With direct access to E45 and important arterial roads, 30.000 m2 available pier area and in walking distance of the city centre, pier 4 has always had great potential. But with the recent extension, pier 4 has become an attractive alternative - even for the very large ships and ferries.
Impressive visitor at pier 4
This became obvious when Color Lines impressive SuperSpeed 2 ferry this week called into port at pier 4. The SuperSpeed 2 ferry is owned and operated by one of Europe’s leading transport and shipping companies, Color Line. The ferry is no less than 211,3 meters long, carries 1928 passengers and has a loading capacity of 2,036 lane meters equaling approximately 3,9 km car deck. Built at Aker Yards in Finland, SuperSpeed 2 and its sister ship SuperSpeed 1 represent a new era of Scandinavian ferry traffic with their high-tech, ultra modern architecture and design.
Visiting pier 4 SuperSpeed 1 and SuperSpeed 2 usually sails between Hirtshals (DK) - Kristianssand (NO) and Hirtshals – Larvik (NO), but the visit to pier 4 showed that the port of Frederikshavn now also is an option. For Color Line this is a great advantage, as they are in need of an emergency port to call into if the weather conditions are too rough at their usual destination, the port of Hirtshals. Hirtshals is located on the west coast of Denmark and the weather here is more windy and harsh than in Frederikshavn, the only ferry port sheltered and in lee on the east coast. |
